  • My new Zoom H2 recorder is not helping my aeroneurophycosis – I can now playback a DC3 engine startup, P40 fly by & P40 taxying – oh yeah :) #
  • After the weekend I've just had, Monday morning is such a major downer (especially as my car parking space has its door closed still – oops) #

  • At the evening presentation for a speach about the Vickers' Vimy replica & replicate the race flight to Australia #
  • Hearing some great stories tonight about replicating Vickers Vimy flights, Bert Hinkler's Avro Avian flight & now the 1934 race to Melbourne #
  • Time for bed back home – one more short DC3 ride tomorrow and then my involvement with the 75th anniversary of 'Uiver' is over – wow! #

  • Just landed at Tullamarine (YMMLY after a 15 minute flight from Moorabbin (YMMB) in the DC3 – great fun mixing it up with the big jets :) #
  • All done – the bus has arrived to take us back to YMMB – bet this takes a lot longer than the flight over :) #
  • 4 flights in a DC3 over 3 days, lots of interviews, a gala dinner, a great lecture session & some cockpit audio to boot – all for @PCDU :) #

  • Ok, battery's back on the phone – in a hangar at Albury airport with Lockheed 12, T6 (Harvard) & P40 out front & lit up by lights from below #
  • At Albury for the 75th anniversary of the KLM DC2 'Uiver' landing here on it's way to Melbourne in the London to Melbourne airrace #
  • We flew to Albury in a DC3 to reenact the Uiver's flight – we circled the city a few times then did 2 missed approaches on the race course #
  • We had a nanchang off our wing while we circled, then landed – now at the 75th anniversary dinner with the Dutch ambassador & KLM reps #
  • Now having a radio play about the Uiver's flight from London to Melbourne – most amusing :) #
  • Just did a quick interview with Ros who managed the event here in Albury then chatted (no recording) with one of the KLM crew :) #
  • Many people are wearing period costume – lots of 1930s outfits – classic stuff #
  • We have the son & grandsons of the Uiver's radio operator here – they flew up with us in the DC3 #
  • Had a chat with the Dutch Ambassador & interviewed Alan Arthur (owner & pilot of the P40) had the band in the background so hope it's OK :) #
  • I hope these recordings work – still not used to the H2 and the band in the background may be drowning them out – fingers crossed :) #
  • Question: which 2 seat kit plane cruises @250-300kt & is pressurised? #
  • Awake & ready for a new day – hotel bed wasn't too bad – breakfast & we fly the DC3 back at 00:30Z #

  • Heading with the Dutch ambassador & family of the radio operator to the old DC2 painted as Uiver & used to be on a pole at Albury airport #
  • I'm surrounded by #warplanes – P40, T6 Harvard, 2x Nanchangs, Yak52, birddog on floats (I kid you not!) + bonus = Lockheed 12, DC3 & DC2 :) #
  • My GF wants to buy me a ride in a #warplane but I may need to lose 5kg to do aeros – talk about incentive to diet :) :) #
  • Saying good bye to the #Warplanes at Albury & about to leave in our DC3 VH-AES ('Hordon' – flew the 1st DC3 flight for TAA in 1944 :) #
  • Just did our engine run up – I love the sound of real engines (especially P&W Twin Wasps :) #
  • Just arrived @ Wangaratta to see some amazing #warbirds being restored – 2 winjeel, a wirraway & a DH Drover on the ramp – more inside :) #

  • I'm in heaven – the hangar at Precision Aerospace in Wangaratta – a Fury, a Sea Fury, 2 P40s, 2 Chipmunks, a Grumman Goose, a Mirage [more] #
  • [Cont] a P39, a jindivik taget drone, bits of other P40s & a Boston bomber, a Ki61 Tony, Vaultee Vengance – all being restored for customers #
  • Lots of the manufacturing gear here came from GAF & CAC – the 600 tonne hydraulic press is ex GAF :) #
  • Leaving Wangaratta – heading to Melbourne for a flyby at Flemington Racecourse then over Laverton then land at Morrabbin :) #
  • We just landed at Moorabbin – thank you DC3 – small flight on it again tomorrow :) #
  • Ok, the DC3 I was flying in started as a C47 in 1942 & was modified after WW2 to civilian then flew TAA's first DC3 service in 1946 #
